The colors that make up the tea rainbow can be found at the Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium in West Hollywood. Located on trendy Melrose Avenue and close to the Pacific Design Center, the store is a quiet place full of vegetation, peaceful music, and koi ponds. They offer an extensive library of hot and cold tea’s that come in a number of unique flavors to match or change your mood.
“Dr. Tea, that’s what they call me,” says Mark Ukra, co-owner of the Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium. He explains he was dubbed “doctor” by a group of tea-tasting toddlers who once visited the Emporium, where he and wife Julie are dedicated to “bestowing knowledge” about tea’s health benefits each day.
Dr. Tea calls the Emporium “similar to the Cheers bar but with tea,” as health-minded barflies come for conversation, some slightly less caffeinated inner peace, or just a spot of tea-and-quiet. One-on-one or in the dozens, Dr. Tea hopes to provide this coffee-crazed city with just a little bit of Zen.
The menu offers varieties from around the world, many of which are exceptionally rare. Among them is “pu-erh,” which allegedly gets better with age (uncommon for the beverage). You can test this yourself by ordering some leaves from the 1950s. They also offer Frosteas, which are cool and refreshing tea beverages that come in different flavors.
Along with their tasty and healthy selection of tea’s, they offer light food options such as beet salad, couscous, and quinoa.
They also offer gluten-free and vegan pastries such as cookies and cupcakes. Their new vegan Chai Latte and Vanilla Caramel Cupcakes are delicious.
Visit the Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium for a relaxing and stimulating experience, this is one doctors appointment you don’t want to miss. Ask for my friend Dennis who will give you the ultimate and personalized tea tour. Namaste.
