For those of us living in Los Angeles or visiting, we have all experienced a traffic jam due to a filming or seen a crowd of paparazzi following a celebrity. Although this may be exciting to some, this is not the type of journey through cinema I are talking about. This journey is brought to you by the creators of Cirque du Soleil.
From its humble beginnings as a group of 20 street performers in 1984, to headlining Las Vegas and creating multi-million dollar productions across the world. IRIS is the modern-day circus.
IRIS is a lyrical, fanciful, kinetic foray into the seventh art. Bringing together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences, and animation, the show takes spectators on a fantastic voyage through the history of cinema and its genres, taking them into the heart of the movie-making process.
From illustration to animation, black and white to colour, silent films to talkies, fixed shots to swooping camera movements, spectators witness the poetic construction and deconstruction of this art as an object and as a way of transcending reality.
IRIS takes place at the Kodak Theater on Hollywood Blvd. The theater is the crown jewel of the Hollywood and Highland Center retail, dining and entertainment complex located in the heart of historic Hollywood. Before the show, visit the many shops or dine at the Hard Rock Cafe, or watch the street performers just outside.
The theatre opened in November 2001 and soon thereafter became known across the globe as the first permanent home of the Academy Awards.
