Dine On A Dime At Urban Masala

February 17, 2012 — Leave a comment

This is the Chipotle of Indian food; fast, casual, and hip. Urban Masala is a new casual Indian restaurant in the heart of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. The restaurant serves tasty, affordable Indian dishes till the wee hours, for you night owls and club goers.

After learning of this new spot on the news, I decided to visit. I was welcomed with street parking, which is always a plus in Hollywood, and was greeted and served promptly. The place has an unassuming exterior but the inside  is very clean and modern.  The walls are bare but I assume they have artwork in transit. The kitchen is open and visible, adding to the fast and fun theme.

The savory offerings include chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chana masala, lamb curry, and aloo gobhi. The naan is baked in their two tandoori ovens, sent over from London, and there are many vegetarian and vegan items available. The desserts include rice pudding infused with cardamom, and gulab jamun, an Indian donut-like treat sweetened with rosewater. No liquor license yet, but in the meantime you can partake of mango lasses, chai tea, or popular glass-bottled Indian sodas. I ordered the Naan Role with side of Naan garlic bread and guava juice. The yogurt and cucumber dipping sauce completed the meal.

Urban Masala is Hollywood’s newest fast casual concept and represents a unique dining destination for Los Angeles. With the combination of its chic décor, hip vibe, and tasty yet approachable modern take on Indian cuisine, Urban Masala is sure to become a destination of choice for Angelenos and visitors alike. From day time tourists to local lunch crowds, Urban Masala brings modern Indian fare to the heart of the city.

There is nothing slumdog  about his restaurant.
