National Train Day

April 26, 2013 — Leave a comment

Amtrak will join communities across America to celebrate the importance of trains to their town at the sixth annual National Train Day. The event will inspire more than 200 communities to gather at their local train stations to share their commitments to train travel and celebrate the ways trains connect us all. Events will be hosted at local train stations, railroad museums, and other locations commemorating this year’s theme “trains matter.”

National Train Day will showcase that in addition to simply move people and freight, trains are powerful catalysts for local and national economic growth. They are also an instrumental part of the American story, connecting towns and cities, employing thousands, and supporting local businesses and communities nationwide. In 2012, Amtrak welcomed 31.2 million riders, employed 20,000 people and produced $2 billion in sales.
