As part of designLAb, Pacific Design Center’s nationally recognized arts program, PDC is will be debuting a permanent installation from French artist Xavier Veilhan, on view from June 12 onwards. The monumental mobile, titled “Mobile n°3 (Music),” composed of thirty floating spheres can be viewed from two levels within PDC’s Green Building to embrace the artistic language of architect Cesar Pelli’s landmark work. Now showcased permanently at Pacific Design Center, “Mobile n°3 (Music)” debuted this spring at Galerie Perrotin, in a double exhibition held simultaneously in the gallery’s New York and Paris locations.

One of the leading artists of his generation, Veilhan has developed a multi-form approach to sculpture, painting, performance, video and photography and is best known for his large-scale installations. Pacific Design Center’s owner and real estate mogul, Charles S Cohen, has multiple pieces in his personal collection and deems Veilhan a modern-day Calder. Veilhan gained international recognition with his 2009 exhibition at Chateau de Versailles in France. Recent projects in the U.S. include site-specific exhibitions in Los Angeles in 2012-2013 (Sheats-Goldstein Residence, Richard Neutra’s VDL Research House in Silver Lake, Case Study House no.21), “Jean-Marc” (2012) an outdoor work installed in midtown Manhattan and “Le Corbusier” (2013), a large-scale bust of the architect now permanently installed in Miami’s Design District. The Veilhan mobile joins other permanent installations at the PDC that include commissioned works by Erwin Redl, Gerardo Hacer and Antonio Pio Saracino, which are located in the Red Building.
