Imagine a day at the beach without the hassle of getting there. Sinking your feet in the sand, the sun in your face, a breeze in the air, your favorite drink in hand, a selection of healthy snacks just steps away. Now imagine all of this just down the street in the middle of West Hollywood. A beach in the middle of the city? Welcome to Beach Nation.

Beach Nation is the new outdoor beach-style cafe on Santa Monica Boulevard, just blocks from Beverly Hills, Melrose, and the Sunset Strip. The spacious deck is an oasis in the middle of the city: waving palm trees, rustling sea grasses… a stylish beach cafe vibe created by famed designer Thomas Schoos. Plus a huge sand box right in the middle of the action — take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes!

Beach Nation’s coffee program features single origin roasts and distinctive blends created for them by Barefoot Coffee of Santa Clara, California, one of the West Coast’s finest small batch roasters. They also serve a selection of juice and soda.

Designed and created by internationally acclaimed hospitality designer Thomas Schoos (Herringbone at the Mondrian LA, The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, Tao in New York and Las Vegas) Beach Nation is the result of a vision Schoos had to bring some of his favorite beach experiences to his own neighborhood in Los Angeles. The eclectic furniture and design adds a modern twist to the traditional beach bungalow vibe, giving the laid-back California lifestyle a progressive new attitude.

Staying true to the ingredients and style of authentic Asian street food allows them to offer fresh made, tasty, and healthy food that’s lower in sodium and fat while maintaining the craveable flavors that make this food so memorable.

Asian street stalls in a way were the first sustainable restaurants. The proprietors purchased everything they needed fresh for the day and pushed their carts to the market with the day’s bounty. They would sell everything they made and then started again the next day. Just like the Asian Box … Real Food. Fast.

Located in the heart of Los Angeles’ historic Melrose shopping district, the Melrose Umbrella Co. brings the social cocktail experience back to basics, where chivalry is alive and well: a place where you are welcomed as a neighbor in an atmosphere that feels like home.

The Melrose Umbrella Co. pays homage to the history of the post-prohibition era, and the rebirth of America’s culinary contribution – the cocktail. The building in which the Melrose Umbrella Co. is housed was built in the midst of the excitement of the demise of prohibition, after the 18th amendment was lifted via ratification of the 21st amendment. Making it the only instance in U.S. history that a constitutional amendment was retracted.

Yamashiro Hollywood’s Guest Chef Series returns for its 3rd installment during the LA Icon’s 100 year anniversary. Executive chef Brock Kleweno welcomes retro pop soul duo David & Devine, whose original works – to be performed live – have inspired the five-course dinner they will accompany.

“Food and music have always been connected for me. Each dish I make should have a verse and chorus, harmony and pitch. I’m so excited to conceptualize dishes that are inspired by David & Devine’s original music, as I’ve been a huge fan of them for years now. Adding to that, the fact that I get to work with Chef Betty Fraser – who is beyond talented – I feel very lucky. It’s going to be a great night of music, food, and friends,” said Kleweno.

About Yamashiro

Yamashiro – translated to “mountain palace” – broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building was designed as an exact replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan.

exterior-night

During the “Golden Age” of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive social house for the “Club of the Four Hundred”, comprised of the era’s most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy’s military school, and then apartments, before being acquired in 1948 by Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, son of Thomas O. Glover, Yamashiro is flourishing 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution.
