Get ready to spice things up during the 22nd Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival! One of Oxnard’s signature events, the Oxnard Salsa Festival celebrates salsa food, music, and dance in historic downtown Oxnard.

Presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, the annual event features spicy food and fiery, top entertainment, attracting an estimated 45,000 salsa lovers to the City of Oxnard for the two-day action packed celebration.

Everything salsa – the food, the music, the dance – is on the menu of this popular regional festival. Event highlights include Main Stage entertainment with Salsa and Latin Jazz bands; the Salsa Tasting Tent, featuring over 75 different salsas; an eclectic vendor marketplace; international foods; Kids Korner attractions; chef demonstrations; a salsa recipe contest and more.

Street Food Cinema presents Raiders of the Lost Ark! In this classic film, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. Enjoy the outdoor screening with friends and family and visit the many food trucks that will be attending.

Band

Farspeaker is a Los Angeles based band that blends classic and alternative rock. Fronted by Henry Thomas, a veteran of the Texas music scene, for the last six years Farspeaker has won over a loyal fan base. Influenced by bands such as The Replacements, Big Star and Wilco, the group brings a welcome return to adult indie rock. Their first album is due for release in 2015. Farspeaker are Henry Thomas, Max Biscoe, Andrew Burlinson, Corey Roederer and Kerry Harris.

Heritage Square Museum has a lot to offer during the summer! Saturday, June 27 and July 25 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm there will be an open gardening day in their Ford Kitchen Garden. Stop by to help them weed, plant, and prepare their garden. Tools will be provided. Please remember to dress appropriately for working in a garden. Long sleeves, a hat, and closed toed shoes are recommended.

Victor Ian Elan will once again be hosting his Soirees Mystique in the Perry Mansion on July 11 with one show at 7:00 pm and the second at 9:00 pm. Tickets for the two shows can be purchased here. Museum members receive a discount on the ticket prices. Mark you calendars because their Silent & Classic Movie Nights are coming Saturday, August 15 and 22 at 7:30 pm. Join as they project films onto the side of their boxcar. Bring blankets, chairs, and a picnic to enjoy a movie under the stars. Admission is free for members and $10 for the general public. Films TBA.

Volunteers are a huge part of Heritage Square and they can always use more. Becoming a volunteer is one of the most important ways you can support the museum. In particular this session, they are looking for people who are interested in becoming tour guides. Their volunteer training process is a five session course held on Saturday mornings from August 1 to August 29 beginning at 10:00 am. The course will teach you everything you need to know to begin introducing guests to the museum and our structures.

Hosted by radio reporter Rico Gagliano and curated by writer Diana Wagman, BAMBOOZLED promises a night to remember with live readings by four notable LA-based authors, J. Ryan Stradal, Jillian Lauren, Gary Phillips, and Naomi Hirahara. The audience then gets to decide whether or not each writer’s intricate stories are, in fact, Fact or Fiction? Prizes will be awarded to the winners. During the performance, talented, multi-media artist Aaron Axelrod will be creating a live painting inspired by the stories told, which will be gifted at the end of the night in a grand prize drawing.

Friends of the Dalai Lama announced that a Global Compassion Summit will be held in honor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s landmark 80th birthday. The summit will be the official world celebration of His Holiness’ 80th birthday, featuring world leaders, Nobel Laureates, celebrity guests, speakers, and performers from around the globe.

Hosted by Friends of the Dalai Lama, UC Irvine and the Center for Living Peace, the kick-off will be held at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., which accommodates 18,000 attendees. The following two days of summit dialogues, panels and special gatherings will take place on the UCI campus. This will be the Dalai Lama’s first visit to Anaheim, The City of Kindness, and third visit to Irvine. All events are open to the public.

The Global Compassion Summit is designed to foster a dialogue on compassion and peace with His Holiness’ diverse, multi-ethnic global audience. The event will be a celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s lifetime of devotion to the work of spreading the message about the value of peace, kindness and universal compassion throughout the world.
