Back by “Popular” demand! Variety calls Wicked “a cultural phenomenon,” and when it last played at the Segerstorm Center for the Arts, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony Awards®, Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times).

Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years and makes for “the most complete— and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time” (USA Today).

w20

Wicked is a musical that opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater October 30, 2003. It is touted as the untold story of the witches of Oz and is loosely based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. With musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento, Wicked is directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts is among the nation’s premier cultural institutions, presenting a broad range of world-class performances and innovative education programs to an increasingly diverse, enthusiastic, and growing audience on its multi-venue campus. World premieres, free performances, festivals, workshops, and other programs invite you to explore the arts in new ways – a place of innovation and tradition where creativity, culture, and community connect.
