This summer, ongoing partner, Silverlake Wine, continues curating fine selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines for park-goers as well as local gourmet cheese shop, Say Cheese. Art workshops for children, music by KCRW’s DJ Dan Wilcox and a host of specialty food trucks, also compliment this popular family-friendly event that has raised over $500K to support the Park’s capital projects, art programs, historic renovations and gallery exhibitions over the last six years.

This one-of-a-kind fundraiser—kicking off the Park’s brand-new literary arts series—invites Angelenos to participate in an interactive evening on April Fools’. Hosted by radio reporter Rico Gagliano and curated by writer Diana Wagman, Bamboozled: Fact. Fiction. Art? The Art of Deception promises a night to remember with live readings by four notable LA-based authors, Lisa Teasley, Deborah Vankin, Bill Lambrinides and Cherry Chevapravatdumrong.

The audience then gets to decide whether or not each writer’s intricate stories are, in fact, Fact or Fiction? Signed copies of the authors’ books will be awarded to the evening’s winners. During the performance, artist and muralist Annie Preece will be creating a live painting based on the stories told, which will be raffled off at the end of the night.

The event has been brought to the Park by the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation and made possible by a grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Bamboozled is part of the Park’s distinctive year-round programming, which also includes its famed wine tastings to movie nights.

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Juxtapoz magazine are pleased to present new works by Robert Williams in SLANG Aesthetics! in conjunction with 20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz, a group exhibition by guest curators Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace Gallery and Gary Pressman of Copro Gallery. Both exhibitions will be on view at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery from February 22nd to April 19th, 2015. These two exhibitions commemorate the 20th anniversary of Juxtapoz magazine, founded by Williams in 1994, and it’s vast influence on several generations of artists.

Juxtapoz magazine allowed Robert Williams to create a platform for this young and insurgent energy on the West Coast and, with its unprecedented success, Williams became widely upheld as the godfather of the lowbrow and pop surrealist art movements. His first major body of work to debut in Los Angeles in well over a decade, SLANG! Aesthetics will feature 25 new oil paintings by the artist alongside a suite of drawings and a series of large-scale sculptures fabricated with the assistance of Gentle Giant Studios.

What once began as an alternative magazine, Juxtapoz is now the most widely disseminated art publication in the world. Predicated on the rejection of the artificial boundaries that kept “high” art removed from popular culture, Juxtapoz effectively broke down those walls to allow young artists a chance at their own history.
