Located in the heart of Los Angeles’ historic Melrose shopping district, the Melrose Umbrella Co. brings the social cocktail experience back to basics, where chivalry is alive and well: a place where you are welcomed as a neighbor in an atmosphere that feels like home.

The Melrose Umbrella Co. pays homage to the history of the post-prohibition era, and the rebirth of America’s culinary contribution – the cocktail. The building in which the Melrose Umbrella Co. is housed was built in the midst of the excitement of the demise of prohibition, after the 18th amendment was lifted via ratification of the 21st amendment. Making it the only instance in U.S. history that a constitutional amendment was retracted.

Yamashiro Hollywood’s Guest Chef Series returns for its 3rd installment during the LA Icon’s 100 year anniversary. Executive chef Brock Kleweno welcomes retro pop soul duo David & Devine, whose original works – to be performed live – have inspired the five-course dinner they will accompany.

“Food and music have always been connected for me. Each dish I make should have a verse and chorus, harmony and pitch. I’m so excited to conceptualize dishes that are inspired by David & Devine’s original music, as I’ve been a huge fan of them for years now. Adding to that, the fact that I get to work with Chef Betty Fraser – who is beyond talented – I feel very lucky. It’s going to be a great night of music, food, and friends,” said Kleweno.

About David and Devine

Pop-Soul music is currently all the rage, and L.A.-based David & Devine are the soulful duo consisting of Candace Devine (vocals) and Dave Yaden (piano-vocals). As a new school act, they have enjoyed radio airplay for their song “Leave The Light On” while being signed to top Hollywood talent agency ICM and working with a well-known L.A. music manager – all without the benefit of a major label deal.

About Yamashiro

Yamashiro – translated to “mountain palace” – broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building was designed as an exact replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan.

During the “Golden Age” of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive social house for the “Club of the Four Hundred”, comprised of the era’s most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy’s military school, and then apartments, before being acquired in 1948 by Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, son of Thomas O. Glover, Yamashiro is flourishing 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution.
