Opening Night Film:

The Opening Night of the festival will begin with an Opening Ceremony and a special screening of the documentary film “The Brothers Warner.” The film is written, directed, and produced by Cass Warner Sperling (Harry Warner’s granddaughter) and author of the book “The Brothers Warner.” The film is an intimate and touching portrait of the four film pioneers who founded and ran Warner Bros. studios for over 50 years. This epic story includes never before seen photos and footage from the Warner family archives. The film is a story of a family that rose from immigrant poverty through personal tragedies persevering to create a major studio with a social conscience.

The Opening Night Screening will be followed by the Opening Night Gala Reception at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant. This private event includes delicious catered cuisine from Gordon Biersch’s extensive menu along with ice-cold handcrafted brew.

Closing Night Awards Gala:

Sunday evening will be the Closing Night Gala Dinner and celebrity presented Awards Show. The Burbank International Film Festival will not only acknowledge the award-winning filmmakers, but will honor industry icons and professionals that have shaped and defined the world of cinema today. The gala will begin with a Media Red Carpet, Hosted Cocktail Reception, Formal Dinner, Festival Honoree Presentations, Awards Show, and wrap up with a cocktail reception Under-The-Stars. NBC weathercaster/comedian Fritz Coleman will once again be the Master of Ceremonies.

The Festival is proud to continue their partnership with The Castaway Restaurant located in the Burbank hills high above the city. Appropriately nicknamed “The Jewel on the Hill,” Castaway has a spectacular breathtaking view, has been a local landmark for over 40 years, and is a proud supporter of the film festival.

In the 1920’s, Burbank began to flourish with aviation and entertainment. Both industries came to Burbank because of its location and the available space. The motion picture business moved to Burbank starting with First National Pictures who bought a 78 acre site. The company was soon taken over by another young company founded by four brothers by the name of Warner. Other companies soon followed. Among them, Columbia Pictures and Walt Disney’s company.

Today Burbank is the preeminent media and entertainment city. The grandeur of its skyline is composed of the world’s best studios and production houses. Burbank prides itself on a high quality of life, combining 21st century technology with small-town feel. It is here that great films are made. It is here that their illustrious film festival resides.

Their mission is to promote up-and-coming artists by providing a gateway to expand their careers in the entertainment industry. They shine a light on the unknown artist of today, helping them become the celebrated artist of tomorrow.

The grand opening of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on May 18, 1927, was the most spectacular theatre opening in motion picture history. Thousands of people lined Hollywood Boulevard and a riot broke out as fans tried to catch a glimpse of the movie stars and other celebrities as they arrived for the opening. The film being premiered that night was Cecil B. DeMille’s “The King of Kings,” which was preceded by “Glories of the Scriptures,” a live prologue devised by master showman Sid Grauman. A Wurlitzer organ and 65-piece orchestra provided music for the prologue. The theatre opened to the public the following day, May 19, 1927. Read more here.
