Rancho Los Alamitos

November 3, 2014 — Leave a comment

Rancho Los Alamitos is listed twice on the National Register of Historic Places – once as the sacred Tongva village of Povuu’ngna, the traditional birthplace of the native people of the Los Angeles Basin and, second, for the evolution of its significant historic landscape over time.

Screen Shot 2014-11-02 at 11.11.31 PM

The site includes traces of the ancestral village such as an adobe-core ranch house ca.1800 and four acres of lush historic gardens developed during the 1920’s and 30’s.

There is also a restored working ranch barnyard of the early-mid 20th century.

With the opening of the Rancho Center, the film, new exhibits, and room environments that feature the landscape, the people have developed the region and the state over time.

This exceptional site reveals the early Tongva presence, the Spanish and Mexican periods, the ranching and farming era, and the imprint of 20th century development. A quintessential place for people to experience the living story of southern California, Rancho Los Alamitos is a microcosm of the region, past to present.

Inside the stone walls of the 11th century-style castle, Medieval Spain comes to life as six knights, donning authentic armor, clash in a jousting tournament for the title of King’s Champion. Medieval Times is the ultimate family or group dinner show!

Surrender to an age of bravery and honor and witness epic battles of steel and steed during their All-New Show. From ringside seats, discover a feast of the eyes and appetite with more action, more fun and more excitement than ever before.

Not far from Hollywood is the Buena Park Castle. The fortress-like, 1,116 seat Spanish palace is right at home with the red tile roofs, palm trees, and blazing sun of Southern California. And its location couldn’t be better. The castle is only minutes from Disneyland, near the Santa Ana and Artesia freeways. Most of all, we’re proud to say that our show’s stunning battle sequences and authentic Medieval tournament offer one thing Hollywood doesn’t: the thrill of live action.

As you thrill to a rousing live jousting tournament, marvel at awe-inspiring horsemanship and falconry, Medieval Times serves a four-course meal fit for royalty.

The menu includes:

  • Tomato Bisque
  • Focaccia Bread with Olive Oil and Seasoning
  • Oven-Roasted Chicken
  • Larger BBQ Spare Rib
  • Herb-Basted Potato Split into Two Quarters
  • Braided Apple Strudel
  • Larger Beverage Servings and Coffee

Some of the most talented Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament cast members are their horses. The magnificent stallions are born performers. Nearly all of their more than 400 horses are raised at Medieval Times’ Chapel Creek Ranch in Sanger, Texas.

Training begins early. As weanlings, Medieval Times horses are introduced to lead ropes and halters. Saddles come at age 2. Long reins and simple exercises such as lunging follow. At age 3, the horses move to their new homes – one of their nine North American Castles – where they learn advanced-level dressage from a master horse trainer. Then life as a pampered performer begins.

After a few years in the spotlight, the Medieval Times horses move back to the Chapel Creek Ranch. In the serene setting, we make sure our horses live out their lives in royal treatment.
