Run by the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, Castaic Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful state water reservoir located just north of Santa Clarita on the 5 Freeway.
Along with providing fresh water to local communities, Castaic Lake has also remained dedicated to providing the public with a wonderful place to have fun! Whether you come to admire, relax, and reflect upon the beauty, or pack in an extreme day of fun and excitement, there is something here for everybody.
Several State, National, and World record fish were caught a Castaic Lake. The Lake is the largest state water project reservoir in Southern California, and contains over 11,200 total acres of parkland and open space habitat.
Park gates are open from sunrise to sunset, and admission to the park ends an hour before closing. The Park is open every day of the year, except December 25th (Christmas Day). Park activities include boating, world-class fishing, hiking, walking, horseback riding, wakeboarding, jet-skiing, camping, picnicking, kayaking, sailing, plus simply enjoying nature and the great outdoors.
Hiking and Biking Trails
The County of Los Angeles is proud to offer the community quality recreational trails at Castaic Lake. The trail system is open to mountain bikes, equestrians, and hikers. Participants are presented with a wide variety of potential destinations to discover and explore.
Camping
Castaic Lake offers self-contained overnight camping on its Lower Lake/Lagoon. The campgrounds are located off of Lake Hughes Road on the east side and will accommodate travel trailers, campers, and RV’s. Tent camping is also available on a limited basis.
Swimming
Designated areas for boating, swimming (seasonal), and fishing are easily accessible from the campgrounds. Hiking, biking, and equestrian trails are also just a few minutes drive away.
Because of their ideal location, the Castaic Lake Campgrounds make the perfect place to set up your “base camp” for all your recreational activities.

Castaic Lake Fit-For-Fun Program
The Castaic Lake Fit-For-Fun program is an ongoing series of guided events, self-guided activities and/or independent workouts designed to help you stay fit and enjoy the recreation area while you work out! Membership is free. Become a member and start tracking!
Float Tube Bass Derby
Friends of Castaic Lake present the Float Tube Bass Derby September 28, 2013 from 6:00 am – 1:00 pm at Castaic Lagoon. There will be a “big fish” cash prize and BBQ plus awards for top place catches.
Castaic Lake is a great family destination with lots of outdoor activity and fantastic views.
