Dia De Los Muertos

October 28, 2013 — Leave a comment

Dia de Los Muertos is one of Mexico’s traditional holidays reuniting and honoring beloved ancestors, family, and friends. It is an ancient and enduring ritual when the living commune with the dead – a mystical night when the veil is lifted between their two realms and they may share a day together.

Dia de Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever cemetery was envisioned for the purpose of providing an authentic venue, in which this ancient tradition could be genuinely observed, celebrated, and preserved. This event has provided a gateway for those who wish to re-acquaint themselves with their deeply rooted traditions and profoundly engage with one of the most devotional celebrations for the continuous cycle of life.

The first Alebrijes, along with use of the term, originated with Pedro Linares. After dreaming of the creatures while sick in the 1930s, he began to create what he saw in cardboard and paper mache. Today Alebrijes are a vibrant part of the culture of Oaxaca.

The main stage headliner will be legendary vocalist and former lead singer of the bands Caifanes and Jaguares, Saul Hernandez. Saul creates music that reflects the present and is rooted in the most telluric past. Performed live, his music is more than a concert: it is a ritual. This year features a new third stage featuring music and theatrical performances including Ceci Bastida, Buyepongo, Chicano Batman, and Quitapenas.

HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY

Dia de Los Muertos is a time of celebration on remembrance. It is also a time to come to terms with our mortality and become aware of the cycle of life and death. Rather than deny and fear death this event teaches us to accept and contemplate the meaning of mortality.

November 26, 2012 — Leave a comment

In 2010, The Taste of Mexico’s inaugural event offered food connoisseurs the opportunity to sample entrees from southern California’s finest Mexican restaurants. For one day only, guests were invited downtown to Vibiana to indulge in an unlimited taste testing of delicious regional dishes. Over 1,000 people attended 2010’s event and the publicity blitz reached millions. This year promises to be bigger and better with Tequila, Mezcal, Baja wineries, and over a dozen restaurants offering unlimited samplings. Live music, mariachi, and DJ’s will round out the entertainment for the evening.

A.W.O.L Sun

September 3, 2012 — Leave a comment

With summer winding down in Los Angeles, why not extend it in Mexico! My friends at A.W.O.L. are throwing their third annual A.W.O.L. Sun. Join us as we head back to where it all began, featuring the world’s best DJs, beautiful people, and a culture of forward-thinking, warmth, and open-mindedness. This 5-night experience will once again be hosted at the breathtaking ME Cabo, located right on the water in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Unlike any other music experience of its kind, A.W.O.L. is the perfect mix for the senses. Essentially a destination music event, A.W.O.L. asks you to go on vacation, with consistently unbelievable DJ lineups including Grammy-award winners, DJ Mag Top 100 acts, and much more electronic music talent. A.W.O.L. not only features a music experience in the most beautiful locales around the world, but a culture of lasting connections and friendship. I’m not only returning this year, but I look forward to reuniting with old friends, making new friends, and experiencing  Another Way of Life.

A.W.O.L. is much more than an event or brand. It is a movement. An enriched group of like-minded, creative, and beautiful people gather to adventure, celebrate, network, dance, enjoy new music, and return with meaningful relationships and lifelong memories. Deemed “Lifers,” A.W.O.L. alumni have bonded into a rapidly expanding family of close friends and business partners. Their Lifers travel from San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas, Chicago, the Bay Area, Australia, Sweden, and more to attend A.W.O.L. Their events are comprised of these loyal Lifers and those eager to join the culture, including music insiders, C-level executives, entrepreneurs, tastemakers, and more.

Watch a video on the A.W.O.L. experience here.
