Karie Bible was born a heterochromatic baby (meaning she’s got two different colored eyes) with the last name “Bible” on Halloween night, Karie was destined to be nothing if not unique. Her passion for history and Hollywood’s past led her to starting a cemetery tour in 2002 under the guidance of acclaimed historian Marc Wanamaker. In keeping with her love of living history, she gives the tour in vintage gowns from her collection that spans the 1920’s through the 1950’s. Kariei has lectured at LA’s Silent Movie Theatre, The Old Town Music Hall, The Queen Mary, and is also the currently reigning “Lady in Black” to honor silent film star Rudolph Valentino. She is actively involved as a volunteer with the American Cinematheque and the Los Angeles Conservancy and is a member of the Hollywood Heritage and the Art Deco Society.

Cinespia is an organization that hosts on-site screenings of classic films in and around Los Angeles. They show films from the 1930s through the 1990s. The al fresco Hollywood Forever Cemetery screenings take place on the Fairbanks Lawn (so named for the adjacent crypt housing both Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. and Jr.), and films are digitally projected against the west wall of the Cathedral Mausoleum, which houses the crypt of Rudolph Valentino among many others.

c1

Up to 3,500 patrons per screening bring blankets, pillows, picnic dinners, alcoholic beverages and candles and enjoy screenings under the stars, while a staff of 35 keep things running smoothly.

2

DJ’s play music before and after the screenings over a portable sound system, and guest DJ’s have included Carlos Niño, Andy VotelCut Chemistthe Gaslamp KillerDam-FunkPeanut Butter Wolf and members of the Numero Group and Dublab collectives.

Cemetery screenings are held very Saturday all summer long! It’s fun to hang out, picnic, and watch fun, old movies outside under the stars with hundreds of others doing just the same.
