The company of 12 actors plays more than 100 unforgettable characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up?

The touring production has drawn enthusiastic responses from critics: “Exuberantly directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, this ingenious fairy tale flies on its giddy sense of invention as a cast of 12 employs nothing more than a few ladders, a bit of rope, a stuffed cat and a kitchen timer to cast a magic spell on the audience,” said Karen D’Souza of the San Jose Mercury News.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” is “a shimmering treasure…nautical and naughty… wonderfully literary and ridiculously imaginative,” said Lisa Kennedy from The Denver Post and Lauren Smart from Arts + Culture Texas magazine dubbed it “…an inventive delight of a show, with jokes for the adults and an imaginative story for the kids.”

The Sunshine Boys

September 11, 2013 — Leave a comment

The laughter hits the ceiling when Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Danny DeVito joins Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Judd Hirsch to tear it up in this outrageous new production of the Neil Simon’s classic The Sunshine Boys.

Sun_488x240

In The Sunshine Boys, Willie Clark (DeVito) and Al Lewis (Hirsch) are former vaudevillian stars who, after a partnership of over 40 years, are no longer speaking to each other.  When a lucrative television offer for one last show lures them into a grudging reunion, sparks fly in this classic comedy of showbiz and friendship. DeVito and Hirsch are reuniting on the Ahmanson stage 30 years after they both starred in the landmark television series “Taxi.”

The Sunshine Boys “… celebrates the clown’s classic gift for turning anger into art,” said Ben Brantley of The New York Times. “Willie Clark … has a carved-in-stone list of things that are funny. Words that have “k” sounds, for instance, like pickle and cake and cucumber. Might I add to that list the image of a tufted Danny DeVito in striped pajamas and a sports jacket? … That’s comedy, folks. And it’s one of the reasons that Thea Sharrock’s production of ‘The Sunshine Boys’ works so incredibly well.”

The Sunshine Boys by Simon,

The Sunshine Boys is playing at the Ahmanson Theatre that for over 40 years has presented a wide variety of dramas, musicals, comedies, and classic revivals.

Back by “Popular” demand! Variety calls Wicked “a cultural phenomenon,” and when it last played at the Segerstorm Center for the Arts, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony Awards®, Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times).

Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years and makes for “the most complete— and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time” (USA Today).

Wicked is a musical that opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater October 30, 2003. It is touted as the untold story of the witches of Oz and is loosely based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. With musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento, Wicked is directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello.
