National Train Day

April 26, 2013 — Leave a comment

Amtrak will join communities across America to celebrate the importance of trains to their town at the sixth annual National Train Day. The event will inspire more than 200 communities to gather at their local train stations to share their commitments to train travel and celebrate the ways trains connect us all. Events will be hosted at local train stations, railroad museums, and other locations commemorating this year’s theme “trains matter.”

The National Train Day event at Los Angeles Union Station will feature free kids’ activities sponsored by Chuggington, interactive and educational exhibits, and model train displays and giveaways. You will have the chance to tour private luxury railcars, freight and commuter trains, as well as current Amtrak equipment.

National Train Day invites communities big and small to share the importance of trains as a vital transportation option and engine of economic development and employment. Event offerings will vary to include train equipment displays, family friendly activities and local dignitaries.

National Train Day will showcase that in addition to simply move people and freight, trains are powerful catalysts for local and national economic growth. They are also an instrumental part of the American story, connecting towns and cities, employing thousands, and supporting local businesses and communities nationwide. In 2012, Amtrak welcomed 31.2 million riders, employed 20,000 people and produced $2 billion in sales.
